According to various reports, 19-year-old 'Abd Al-Karim Adel 'Asi of Jaffa, sought in Monday's murder of Rabbi Itamar Ben Gal in Ariel, holds Israeli and Palestinian Authority identity cards, since his mother is an Israeli from Haifa, originally from Nazareth and his father is a resident of the Samarian PA city of Shechem.
He lived at the Shanti House for at-risk youth in Tel Aviv during the summer of 2016. Shanti House coordinator Helit Levy told Channel 10 Television "He chose to leave after we forbade him to continue to visit his family in Shechem." He was previously treated by the welfare authorities of Haifa municipality and was involved in a therapeutic project called "The House on Haim Street", which aims to provide temporary shelter for boys and girls in distress.
