2017 was the cleanest year on the beaches since the Clean Coast Index of the Ministry of Environmental Protection was introduced in 2005. 54.5% of the beaches were clean at least 70% of the year.
The ministry noted that the introduction of the "bags law" led to a reduction in the amount of waste left on the beaches.
