Referring to recent comments by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in remarks before reporters, Edelstein said, "Abu Mazen said that Israel is a colonial project and I would expect a strong reaction from the EU." Edelstein also said, "We must pay attention to the 'double talk' of Abu Mazen, who speaks differently in English and Arabic." Mogherini reiterated the EU's commitment to Israel's security and noted the importance of an open and sincere dialogue between Israel and the EU, emphasizing the unity and cooperation that exists.
