Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Tzfat's Chief Rabbi and a senior Religious Zionist figure, refused to retract his remarks calling for IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot to be fired over his role in promoting mixed-gender units. Rabbi Eliyahu said on Wednesday that Eizenkot is responsible for the historically low rate of Israelis seeking to draft into combat units. "He attacked Elor Azariya and the army rabbinate and let extreme left-wing organizations into the IDF instead," accused Eliyahu.
