Interior Minister Aryeh Deri has apologized to Member of Knesset Yehuda Glick for asking a rabbi to examine whether Glick, who is sitting Shiva following the passing of his wife, would be able to vote in the Knesset on a bill to give his office authority over business openings on Shabbat. Acknowledging what he did, the chairman of the haredi-religious Shas party wrote on Twitter that the vote "was intended to preserve the holiness of the Sabbath," and stressed, "If I hurt the feelings of my friend Yehuda - I apologize."
It should be noted that in the end, the vote was delayed a week after the coalition did not form a majority, both because of Glick's absence and the absence of Minister David Azoulay, who is hospitalized.
