The opposition parties in the Knesset said on Monday morning that they will not compensate for the absence of Member of Knesset Yehuda Glick (Likud) in votes on the supermarket law, following the passing of Glick's wife. Chairman Yoel Hasson of the Zionist Union Knesset faction and opposition coordinator said, "If there is a problem, they should postpone the vote."
The bill gives the final word on Shabbat business openings to the interior minister. In addition to Glick's absence, the participation of Minister David Azoulay is unclear because of his hospitalization. The bill faces opposition within the coalition's Yisrael Beytenu party, a number of Kulanu party members and the Likud's Sharren Haskel. Haredi-religious parties have expressed opposition to reservations on the law.
