Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Israeli public radio on Monday that after the Guatemalan president's statement that he intends to move his country's embassy to Jerusalem, Israel is currently in contact with another 10 countries on the subject.

In a conversation with Haaretz, she clarified that the focus of contacts was the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, following the speech of United States President Donald Trump, and not necessarily the transfer of embassies as a first step. Hotovely refused to specify the exact 10 countries, saying some contacts are advanced and some are preliminary. Sources in the Foreign Ministry confirmed the statement, adding that talks were being held with "more than ten countries, but not much more than that." Israeli diplomats said today that Honduras may be among the next countries to announce a similar move.
