Workers at the Zomet Institute, which deals in technology and Jewish law, have established a gemach or charitable organization for those who need short-term use of a scooter that is permissible for use on the Jewish Sabbath.
The gemach was established in memory of Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, founder of the institute, who recently passed away. One couple donated the cost of buying a scooter. Rabbi Dan Marans, CEO of Tzomet, called on the public to be a partner and invited volunteers who wish to donate new and used scooters in good condition or contribute to the installation of Shabbat-compliant technology to contact the Institute. He also issued a call for volunteers to operate gemach branches at different points in Israel and those who have a suitable place for scooter storage.
