Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is expected to oppose the legislative initiative of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman to impose the death penalty on terrorists, according to Yediot Ahronot.
The legal opinion of the attorney general, which was submitted to Prime Minister Netanyahu and to all the members of the ministerial committee for legislation more than a year ago because of the bill by then MK Liberman stated that the death penalty is not a deterrent to terrorists. In an updated opinion, to be distributed this week, Mandelblit is expected maintain his opposition.
