The Petach Tikva Juvenile Court has ruled that a youth from the Samarian Jewish community of Itamar, who was documented attacking former president Arik Ascherman of Rabbis for Human Rights two years ago, will serve 150 days of public service and compensate Rabbi Ascherman 5,000 shekels but the incident will not go on his record.
The attack occured when Arabs and leftists tried to enter Itamar. The court accepted the defense claim that the boy had been traumatized during a similar incident which was preceded by the murder of the Fogelman family in Itamar. It also took into account his regret, the fact that he is about to be inducted into the Israel Defense Forces and Ascherman's position against jail time and request that the youth meet with people of opposing viewpoints.
