"The approval of the Supermarket Law is a further sale of the rights of secular and traditional Israelis to live in their own way," Zionist Union leader Avi Gabbay said Tuesday morning.
Gabbay added that "Netanyahu is selling the state and his electorate so that the coalition partners will continue to remain silent as he tries to silence the judicial system and the police. This will come at the cost of Israeli citizens who respect Shabbat and tradition and live outside Tel Aviv.
"We respect religion but also respect those who wish to have a supermarket open nearby on Shabbat without hurting anyone or acting malevolently.
"In a normal state every local authority should decide for itself in accordance with its inhabitants but the government and its leader are throwing everybody out the ship so they don't drown themselves. We will change this when we are elected."
