Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) thanked President Trump following the American recognition of Jerusalem.
'' President Trump - congratulations. On behalf of the citizens of Israel, I would like to thank you. It is a rainy day in Jerusalem, but a bright day for the Jewish people. Today you made history. On 15 May 1948, the United States, led by President Truman, became the first nation to recognize the newly proclaimed State of Israel. The rest of the world followed. President Truman did so despite the great pressures from home.
"Today, the United States, led by President Trump, became the first nation in the world to recognize Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel. You too were under tremendous pressure, but you did. I expect the rest of the world to follow you. Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people for 3,020 years, and will remain the united capital forever."
