Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the Grand Mufti of "Palestine", has protested the possibility that the American administration will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He said, "If there is recognition, or the American embassy is transferred to Jerusalem, it would be an attack not only against the Palestinians but against the Muslim Arabs around the world."
Hussein said the embassy transfer was illegal and contravened international law, which views Al-Quds (Arabic for Jerusalem based on its holy status in Judaism) as "occupied land" and would not serve peace and security in the region but would cause disasters, wars and instability. He stressed that the residents of Jerusalem, the Palestinians, the Arabs and all the Muslims would not accept the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and would do anything to thwart it.
