The first judicial conference in Israel to discuss the controversial issue of "The sovereignty of the State of Israel in Jerusalem" in the light of international law took place today in the capital. Appearing in three panel discussions, international legal experts unanimously stated that Jerusalem is the legal capital of the State of Israel. Nineteen diplomatic missions, including Jordan, sent representatives.
Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin told the conference, "We have nothing to be ashamed of. We do not have to be afraid of international attacks. We have answers. We have to act, and that's exactly what we're doing. It is precisely when tomorrow we mark the 70th anniversary of the UN vote [that paved the way for Israel's independence] that the world must recognize that Jerusalem is the legal and eternal capital of Israel."
