The quota committee of the Ministry of Economy and Industry has published the names of the winners of the competitive process for the import of 13,500 tons of chilled fresh meat with a duty exemption for 2018 and the maximum consumer prices to which the winners have committed.
The annual consumption of fresh meat in the retail market is estimated at 18-20 thousand tons. For the first time, the committee implemented a competitive process in the manner of allocating quotas, based on maximum consumer price, in order to ensure that the benefit embodied in duty-free imports is rolled from importers and retailers to the consumer's pocket.
The winning companies are Maadanei Gourmet, which offered a maximum price of 35 shekels per kilogram of fresh ground meat, Rami Levy (NIS 39), Neto Melinda (NIS 43), Ohf Yerushalayim (NIS 46) and Shufersal/Supersol (NIS 49).
