Bennett: Zero tolerance of violence in education system

Education Minister Naftali Bennett participated in the annual assembly of the Public Forum of Youth Villages.

Bennett said that in recent times "we are witness to violent incidents against teachers in the education system. This is a worrying phenomenon which we cannot condone. I directed the director-general of the ministry, Shmuel Abohav, to prepare a plan for more intensive efforts to prevent, enforce, advise and punish those who attack teachers.

"Teachers are our main resource and we need to empower teachers status and security. We maintain a policy of zero tolerance for violence in the education system."

It was reported earlier Thursday that an 8-yr-old boy had kicked a pregnant teacher in the stomach. The Teachers Union declared a two-hour strike over the incident.
