With 15 of 19 members voting yes, the Likud Knesset faction has expressed support for a bill by Chairman David Amsalem of the Knesset Interior Committee to provide government funding candidates in party primary if their party has at least 5,000 members, the list is mostly democratically elected and the primaries take place in the six-month period before a Knesset election.
The candidates would not be allowed to raise other funds. Parties that do not hold primaries would get 50,000 shekels for every Knesset seat they received in the most recent election.
