Central Command Chief of Staff Ofer Winter denied the quotes attributed to him on Thursday on Hahadashot (formerly Channel 2 News), according to which he will resign from the IDF unless he is appointed division commander.
"The statements made by my so-called 'associates' were not made in consultation with me, and are inconsistent with my world view and my position as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces. I will continue to serve the IDF and the citizens of Israel faithfully, just as I have served in the past 27 years, from the day I was drafted and in all my command positions," said Winter.
"I want to emphasize unequivocally - I do not deal with rumors or interviews, but the situation obliged me to address the issue. I believe in the IDF and the Chief of Staff. The IDF is important to us all. Only together will we win," he added.
