The Knesset has rejected a proposal by Members of Knesset Meir Cohen (Yesh Atid) and MK Meirav Machali (Zionist Union), who sought to deny funding from educational institutions on the grounds of discrimination in registration.

Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism), who responded on behalf of the government, explained in his speech that the court has already ruled that discrimination is not ethnic, but religious. He made it clear that this is a provocative and unnecessary law, since there is already a law that will prevent such incidents.

At the beginning of his speech, he made it clear that there was a wall-to-wall consensus in the Knesset not to allow institutions to discriminate against a student on ethnic grounds. "I would like to say first of all that no one mistakenly think that there is no consensus among all the members of this house. We all condemn disqualification or, Heaven forbid, not accepting a student (male or female) on ethnic grounds. I think that only someone who has no heart can cause a student (male or female) not to be accepted to a school on ethnic grounds. That's something which is proper to condemn. I think we all condemn this."
