The chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said on Wednesday the crisis in Zimbabwe must be resolved "in a manner that promotes democracy and human rights."
The Zimbabwean army took control of the state radio network on Wednesday morning and announced that President Robert Mugabe, 93, and his family were in a "safe place", in what appeared to be a military coup in the country.
