Meretz Party Chairwoman Zahava Galon has responded to comments by Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay that "the Left has forgotten what it means to be Jewish."
Galon said, "No, Avi, you are the one who forgot. There is no contradiction between Judaism and liberal values, and not all Jews are prepared to bow to the haredi-religious or religious Zionist version of Judaism." Referring to the Labor Party, she added, "The Left which established your party knew this once."
