This coming Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's visit to Israel, which eventually led to the signing of the peace treaty with Egypt in March 1979.

In honor of the occasion, the State Archives are re-publishing a selection of documents about the events preceding the Sadat initiative and the course of his visit to Jerusalem. They contain information about the US-brokered negotiations prior to the visit, the secret contacts with Egypt, the reaction of the Israeli government to Sadat's visit to Jerusalem, the visit itself, the participants' summaries, and plans for further talks.
