The Jewish community in Hevron has started a "Machpela campaign" [Doubling campaign] to promote construction in the Jewish part of Hevron. During the course of the campaign every contribution will be matched by friends of Hevron from around the world.
The Cave of the Patriarchs is known as the Machpela cave, or "double cave" because of its double chambers and because four biblical couples are buried there.
