MK Dudi Amsalem(Likud) toured the Elah jail in Beersheva Thursday and discovered that due to lack of budgets and personnel, some prisoners do not receive rehabilitation programs and their sentences are not reduced by a third.
Amsalem said that 'reduction of a third of a sentence is a basic right of every prisoner. If I hear that a resident of Rehovot doesn't get rehabilitation because his mayor did not provide matching funds and therefore he cannot get a reduction of his sentence, it sounds unacceptable to me."
Amsalem added that when a prisoner has nothing to lose he acts differently and therefore every prisoner should have an incentive to receive a reduction.
