Philip Morris International(PMI) , the largest tobacco company in the world, has initiated a new project to fight illegal tobacco smuggling and trade and has pledged 100 million dollars to fund the project.
PMI IMPACT, the funding initiative of Philip Morris, describes itself as “a global initiative to support public, private, and nongovernmental organizations to develop and implement projects against illegal trade and related crimes.”
Funding applications were judged by an expert council of seven individuals with very close links to United Nations enforcement agencies and Interpol.
