New details have emerged about the massacre in a Texas church Sunday in which 26 people lost their lives. The killer, Devin Kelley, had in 2012 escaped from a mental institution and was later arrested at a Greyhound bus station in El Paso near the U.S.-Mexico border after he escaped the facility which was about 12 miles away in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
Kelley was also facing court martial charges at the time for having beaten his wife and her son.
The US Air Force admitted Monday that they had not informed the FBI of his domestic violence conviction, which should have barred him from buying or possessing firearms. Kelley went on to buy 4 firearms between 2014 and 2017.
