Knesset Speaker Yulu Edelstein participated in a festive Knesset session Tuesday afternoon marking the 100th anniversary of the Balfour declaration.
Edelstein said that this was the first time an empire had stated categorically that the Land of Israel is the birthplace of the Jewish nation and it has the unalienable right to reestablish its national home there. Edelstein also suggested adding to the original declaration that "the State of Israel is committed to attaining peace with all of its neighbours and will assist all residents without relinquishing part of its birthright. The state must establish its borders and develop all parts of the country including the north, south, Jordan valley and Judea and Samaria."
