At the initiative of Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel and Deputy Minister of Finance Yitzhak Cohen a "training fund" (Keren Hishtalmut in Hebrew) will be established for farmers who don't work their land during the Shemittah agricultural sabbatical year, which begins in the fall of 2021. The state and Shemittah-observant farmers will allocate a sum of money each year to the fund, thus providing economic security for farmers who maintain a proper shemittah via a monthly stipend based on the allocations.
