Defense Minister Avigdor Libernan has asked President Rivlin to grant a pardon to Elor former soldier Azariya, who is serving a 14-month sentence for manslaughter in the death of a wounded terrorist.
"Elor and his family paid a heavy personal and familial price during the course of Elor's trial and the unprecedented publicity it received which even seems to have taken a heavy toll on their health," Liberman wrote, adding that "we must put an end to the affair which rocked Israeli society and act with compassion towards the soldier at this juncture."
