A senior IDF officer said that the IDF knew about the tunnel stretching from Gaza into Israel near Kissufim for a while and that its discovery was the result of a new IDF unit designed to expose existing tunnels.
"We knew for a long time about the tunnel as a result of administrative work combined with a new 'brain lab' that includes intelligence personnel, field agents, geologists, engineers, and technology experts," he said.
