In a stormy Knesset session regarding the restrictions made by the Knesset legal advisor on opening a committee of enquiry into the funding sources of anti-Zionist left-wing NGO's, MK Yisrael Eichler(UTJ) spoke out against the undue power given to legal advisors and judges to neutralize government initiatives.
Eichler said that the legal advisors are "choking public servants."
He added that "The legal advisor to the Knesset can explain and detail the restrictions of the law and the rulebook. We must decide whether to accept or reject his opinion, but he has no authority to restrict the Knesset's authority. This isn't a fight for authority between the Knesset and lawyers, this is a real danger to citizens of the country who could get involved in street wars because of lawyers and judges."
