Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot said on Tuesday that Monday's destruction of a Gaza terror tunnel by the Israel Defense Forces "removed a threat from Israeli citizens." Speaking after a situation assessment with local commanders and other senior officers, the lieutenant-general said, "This action joins many open and covert actions that the IDF forces are doing and will continue to do in the face of any threat, at any time and in every situation."
Eisenkot continued, "The IDF continues to maintain readiness for every scenario and makes it clear that we are closely monitoring the activities of terrorist elements in the Gaza Strip. Any response or violation of Israeli sovereignty will be answered with determination and in a clear and resolute way, as we did in the last 24 hours. We are determined to continue to provide security for the citizens of Israel and the residents of the Gaza vicinity."
