In accordance with the law enacted in June instituting a national observance on the seventh of Heshvan, the Knesset will hold a series of events on Tuesday celebrating Jewish immigration to the country, including a special meeting of the Immigration Committee with the participation of Prime Minister  Binyamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, Absorption Minister Sofa Landver, Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog and Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky.

The seventh of Cheshvan was chosen due to its proximity to the Shabbat on which the ”Lech Lecha” Torah portion is read, in which G-d commands Abraham to leave his home and go to the Land of Israel.
