Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely met today with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Viorel Meleșcanu and thanked him for Romania's support for Israel over the years. The Romanian foreign minister expressed his country's desire to deepen the economic relations between the two countries as reflected in Romania's intention to open another consulate in Haifa soon. In addition, a joint economic committee was convened to discuss specific projects.

Hotovely raised the issue of pensions and the return of stolen property to Holocaust survivors from Romania and sought to help shorten the associated bureaucratic processes. Meleșcanu accepted the request and announced that a special attache would soon arrive in Israel to assist in this issue.
