German automaker Daimler AG said on Monday that it is recalling more than a million 2012-2018 model year Mercedes-Benz A, B, C, and E-Class models and CLA, GLA and GLC vehicles worldwide to address potential unintended air bag deployments, according to Reuters.
An electrostatic discharge, coupled with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of steering components, can lead to inadvertent deployment of the driver side front air bag in vehicles subject to the recall. Dealers will add new grounding to the steering components, which should require an hour's work per car. Company officials said most of the vehicles are in the United States, Canada, Britain and Germany, with no figures for other countries.
