Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu will arrive in Israel on Monday for a two-day visit, the first visit by a Russian defense minister in Israel in many years, according to Yediot Ahronot.

Shweigo will meet on Monday with his host, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and the next day with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Shoygu is expected to again hear Israel's firm opposition to Iran's attempts to establish itself in Syria, with emphasis on the establishment of air, sea and land bases. Israel will also make it clear that it will not allow the Iranians to approach the border and will not allow the transfer of high-quality weapons to Hezbollah. The day after Shoygu's visit, Liberman will fly to Washington for meetings with Secretary of Defense James Matiss on the Iranian threat and the situation in Syria.
