The United States National Hurricane Center announced on Tuesday that Hurricane Maria has regained the strength of category 5 as it headed for the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico where emergencies have been declared.
Earlier the storm had dropped to category 4. It caused severe damage on the Caribbean island of Dominica.
