The French government issued a warning on Sunday about tropical storm Maria, which is expected to reach hurricane status this week and hit the island of Guadeloupe next week, according to Reuters.
The situation has put several Caribbean islands on alert, according to the United States National Hurricane Center. Maria is currently about 655 km southeast of the Antilles islands.
