Jewish Home leader Naftali Bennett explained to Arutz Sheva that the new proposal which he and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked are promoting is needed to provide the Knesset with tools to legislate due to Supreme Court activism.
"Over the last 30 years the court has hurried to disqualify laws too easily, an act which should be very rare. This was not the intention of legislators.," Bennett said, adding that "many countries have a constitution which serves as a compass for the court regarding disqualification of laws ,but the basis of democracy is the rule of the majority while preventing the trampling of the minority. In all the cases [in which the court disqualified laws] there was no trampling of the minority. Therefore it is time to regulate the authority of the Supreme Court and the relationship between the court and the executive and legislative authorities."
Bennett believes that the prime minister will not torpedo the move and the coalition partners will also see the benefits in the new proposal and support the proposal.
