Imam of Al-Aqsa mosque condemns closure of Waqf office

The Imam(spiritual leader) of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, condemned the decision to close the Waqf offices on Temple Mount as part of the fight against Arab terror, describing it as "null and void."

In an interview with the Al-Resalah website which is linked to Hamas, Sabri said that Israel is adopting these steps as a way to seize control of part of the Al-Aqsa compound.

Sabri said that he would not refer to "the courts of the occupiers" since such a petition meant recognition of Israel and "would bring about the surrender of Al-Aqsa to the courts of the occupiers."

Sabri said that the office slated for closure is actually a large hall near the Golden Gate on the eastern side of Temple Mount which is used for religious events and festivities.
