A senior Palestinian official spoke to the Yisrael Hayom newspaper in advance of the UN general assembly and said that the Americans are making efforts to achieve a summit between Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Trump and Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinians claim that Trump and his officials insist that a meeting between Abbas and the president occur after Abbas addresses the General Assembly since the Americans want first to hear what Abbas has to say and to ensure that he doesn't incite against Israel. The Palestinians claim this is a joint Israeli-American ploy to pressure Abbas.

The Trump administration rejected the report and said that they had never discussed the UN address with the Palestinians or applied pressure on the matter.
