The Justice Ministry has announced that Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit ordered a criminal investigation into Bank Leumi a few months ago, based on the State Attorney's recommendation.
The case began when it became known that Bank Leumi had paid the authorities in the United States about $400 million, in the framework of an arrangement, according to which the bank admitted that it had helped its clients to evade US taxes.
