Report: PM pushing law to allow war without cabinet OK

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is promoting an amendment to the Basic Law: The Government, which will allow the prime minister to declare war or embark on a military operation that could lead to war without the need for prior approval by the government, according to Channel 2 Television.

According to the report, the reason Netanyahu is promoting the amendment to the Basic Law, the government is apparently a dramatic event that took place seven years ago, when Prime Minister Netanyahu and then Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered then chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi, and the head of the Mossad, Yossi Dagan, to bring the defense establishment into a certain action status. Dagan and Ashkenazi replied that this was an illegal action, since the operation could lead to war.
