An agreement between the national government and the city of Ashdod was signed on Sunday, marking the start of a building program that will bring nearly 37,000 housing units to the coastal city over the next ten years after many years without significant growth.

Under the six-billion-shekel program, 3,000 units will be marketed by the end of 2017. In addition, dozens of public buildings will be built, along with synagogues and ritual baths. Infrastructure, including public transportation, will be improved.
