Virginia declares state of emergency

Virginia's governor declared a state of emergency after violence broke out at a "Unite the Right" march in Charlottesville.

Local police dispersed white nationalists and counter-protesters who clashed during the march.

"The imminent threat of civil disturbance, unrest, potential injury to persons, and destruction of public and personal property" are enough to warrant "coordinated local government action," Charlottesville leaders said.
