The death toll in protests in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, has risen to 10.
Venezuela's National Electoral Council said more than eight million people had voted - a 41.53% turnout.
The election will allow President Nicolás Maduro to replace Venezuela's current legislative body - the National Assembly - with a new institution called the Constituent Assembly that will have the power to rewrite the constitution - and grant near unlimited power to Maduro.
