A tense discussion took place at the Knesset over the controversial proposal to lower the 'tender years clause' which grants custody of young children to their mothers from six years old to two years old.
Jewish Home faction Shuli Mualem-Rafaeli who is opposed to the law and is willing to allow the 'tender years clause' to be from the age of four years old.
Rafaeli claimed she had been threatened many times by divorcee fathers over her position and said "I'm not williing to have these threats. My kids lost a father once and I don't want it to happen again. They broke the lights on my car and I'm under threats." Mualem-Refaeli broke into tears.
Committee head Yoav Kisch said that the law must pass to prevent suffering from the children and claimed lowering the age would achieve this.
