Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat responded to the "day of rage" declaration in protest over the placing of magnetometers at the entrances to Temple Mount.

Barkat said that "Temple Mount is a holy place which is designated for prayer and we will maintain the rights of all worshipers and visitors to the Mount, but we will not let any person exploit the mosque for terror purposes as the terrorists [in Friday's attack] did.

"The police decision to place magnetometers is a correct and imperative decision which will prevent the possibility of additional terror attacks at the site. The Muslim leaders and the entire world must internalize that Temple Mount cannot serve as a hiding place or an organizational center for terrorists and murderers."
