IDF to allow funerals without religious symbols

The IDF has published a new directive allowing funerals to take place without religious symbols at family request. The new directive comes in response to a demand by the Hiddush association for freedom of religion and equality and a petition they presented on the matter.

The association welcomed the new directive but stated that the army is not yel allowing secular or non-orthodox funerals to take place and demands that every change receive the authorization of senior officers or of the Army Chief Rabbinate. They added that they would continue with their petition until the entire matter is concluded satisfactorily.
