Chairwoman Zahava Galon of the Meretz Party has accused Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu of lying. Speaking at the Herzliya Conference, Galong said, "It has been eight years since the Bar-Ilan speech, and I'm still waiting for the two-state solution that Netanyahu promised.” She added, "The speech was a lie, just as he lied yesterday when he told [United States negotiator Jared] Kushner that there is an opportunity to advance peace in full. This is not interesting news, but when the prime minister wholeheartedly lies to the public on the most central issues for the State of Israel, it should be of concern. I am telling you that Prime Minister Netanyahu does not support the two-state solution, even if from time to time he releases a non-binding statement on the subject. Netanyahu believes in two things, ‘managing the conflict’, and his personal survival. And when one comes at the expense of the other, Netanyahu always chooses the thing that is most precious to him - himself."
Galon concluded, "I do not delude myself that to end the occupation, and enact the two-state solution would not carry a price, and the wounds of the conflict will not disappear immediately, nor be replaced by a garden of roses and unicorns running around the meadow. The questions we face are enormous, from the permanent borders of the state to security arrangements, water, economics and religion. But if we do not want to wake up in 50 years and ask the same question that Begin asked, ‘What will happen to the Arabs,’ we should start this discussion seriously, because human life depends on the balance. It is no longer possible to continue this discussion with winks, lies, and pretenses."
